School Trips

School Tours

Attention History and Geography/Geology teachers.

Tailor made marine educational tours can be arranged for any school. Any age can be accommodated.

We operate from Mudeford Quay, Christchurch, Dorset, BH23 4AB, which is 5 miles east of Bournemouth.

We offer a ferry crossing from Mudeford Quay to Mudeford Sandbank and Hengistbury Head which is Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). Younger children have had “Pirate” days and play in the sand and collect shells and seaweed. Older children learn about Gabions and Groynes and the animals, birds and plants that inhabit Hengistbury Head. There is rich history on the Hengistbury peninsular stretching from the Iron Age to the present day.

The cost of a one way ferry crossing would be £1 per child with parents and helpers going FREE.

We also offer longer “tailor made” cruises to suit your requirements around Christchurch Harbour, along the rivers Avon and Stour and also sea trips out into Christchurch Bay. Each of these two cruises would be approximately one and a half hours duration and cost £150.

A typical trip including going out to sea would, cruise Christchurch Harbour, including the rivers Avon and Stour, then a sea trip to view Hengistbury Head from the sea to look at the attempts made in years past to holt longshore drift and methods to stop coastal erosion. Typically we would view Hengistbury Head at close range, with background views of Barton cliffs and the Needles Lighthouse.

For the field trips we can supply a full commentary by local experienced historian through the vessels PA system or you can use our PA system for your own use.

Our larger vessel is an 11 metre stable catamaran which is licensed to take up to 60 to sea and has a toilet onboard.
